Iduapriem Gold Mine

In November 2008 Aveng Moolmans was awarded a 5 year contract to carry out the mining at AngloGold Ashanti’s Iduapriem Gold Mine. The Iduapriem Mine comprises the Teberebie and Iduapriem properties in a 1000 sq. km concession.  The mine is located in the Western Region of Ghana 10 km south of Tarkwa and about 80km north of Takarade.

Mining at Iduapriem was temporarily suspended in March 2010 to allow for the repair of the old tailings dam after which the construction of a new tailings storage dam facility was started. The average rainfall at the mine is approximately 2 meters per annum.

Moolmans operated with a fleet comprising of CAT 785 dump trucks, Liebherr 9350 excavators, Sandvik D25ks drill rigs, and the usual support equipment of dozers, graders, water carts etc. Responsibilities at Iduapriem consisted of short term planning, clear and grubbing, topsoil stripping, drilling, blasting and the loading, hauling and dumping of ore and waste operations. 

Aveng Moolmans regularly assisted the local community by donating signboards, old tyres, empty drums, laptop and printers to the deaf, and farming tools to the various societies such as the Tarkwa Municipal Assembly.

The contract came to completion in January 2014.
